And If You Were With Me, Would Protect Me From Harm

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Two days following the party both girls woke up and got out of bed. Cassandra put on her house cloak and asked, “Did you sleep well, sister?”

“Yes and you?” Mira asked.

“Fine. Do you want to walk around the village today after breakfast, Mira? If you do I will tell both our escorts and get the cloaks we use to conceal ourselves.” Cassandra said.

“I would love that. We both need to get out after the party the other night,” Mira said.

“Yes we do. Well I’m off to tell our escorts. I’ll see you at the breakfast table,” Cassandra said as she walked out the room.

She walked down the halls to go to the escorts rooms, but before she did she seen a half dress Hector giggling his head off and the royal dressers chasing after him yelling, “Come back, Prince Hector!”

Before she thought she grabbed her brother and said, “What do you think you’re doing my little devil? You know it’s wrong to run around half naked in the corridors.”

“I was just having fun Sassy!” he said.

She laughed at what he called her. He couldn’t say her name properly and he couldn’t call Mira by her proper name he either call her My or Meera.

“I know you’re just having fun with them,” she said.

The royal dressers slowed their pace when they reached Cassandra and said, “I’m sorry milady for disturbing you, but he ran away from us while we were dressing him.”

“That’s all right. Now you be good to these gentlemen, OK?” she said.

“Ok,” he said and she hugged her little brother and handed him to the royal dressers.

One of them said, “Thank you, Milady. Hope you have a lovely day.”

“You welcome, my good gentlemen. You, too. Thanks you and I will,” She said.

After walking the long corridor, she reached the escorts room and knocked on the door before going in. She heard the familiar voice of her old governess say, “Good morning my child. It’s been awhile since you’ve seen your old governess.”

Before she responded she looked into the face of the woman who taught and watched her grow. She was thinking that the woman raised her along with her stepmother and therefore knew everything about her and what she was thinking. Cassandra smiled and said, “Well I was planning on going out today with my sister and you know how Father is.”

“Yes I do. I will go with you as well as Mira’s old governess. So tell me how excited you are about getting married,” the governess said.

Cassandra frowned at the thought of marrying Prince Gregory especially now that she knew David was alive and she said, “I don’t want to marry him Mina, but I have to.”

“I understand, my child. When are you to leave to go to the village?” Mina said as she touched Cassandra‘s cheek and gave a look of pity.

“After breakfast,” she answered.

“We’ll be ready by then,” Mina said.

“Thank you, Mina,” Cassandra said as she left the room. -----------

Meanwhile at the Monkees home, David was going over the plan again with guys, “I’ll make it look like I accidentally bumped into her grab her hand with the one that has the parchment in it, tell her ‘Sorry miss. I didn’t see you’ and kiss her hand.” They finally agreed that the plan would work. After that David wrote the letter he was going to give Cassandra, but one thing he didn’t notice was that Michael was writing a letter to Mira. Michael thought they were sisters. They probably did a lot of things together and going out of the palace was one of them. After David finished writing his letter, he spoke, “Guys we better be ready to leave soon. She usually leaves the palace after she’s had breakfast and they are probably eating right now or almost finished.” ---------

After finishing her last bit of toast Cassandra said to her father, “Father, Mira and I are going to walk around the village. I have already talked to the governess’s and they will escort us. We have our cloaks to disguise ourselves prepared for us so all we have to do is put them on and go to the village.”

“That’s good you need to go out on a beautiful day like this. Seems like you have everything planned. Can I persuade you to ladies to have me join you or do you to want sometime together?” King Dorian said.

“My lord. I think the girls should spend some time together since Cassandra will be leaving to go to Prince Gregory’s land soon,” Queen Jada said.

“I’m her father I want to spend some time with her too!” King Dorian exclaimed.

“Father we will come back early so I can spend some time with you, because if you come with us everyone will know it’s us and we won’t get to spend anytime together,” Cassandra said.

“She has a point,” Queen Jada said.

“She always knows how to do that. She gets that from her mother. I just wish she had that kind of judgment when he it comes to certain decisions her and Mira make,” he said.

“Thank you, Father for understanding. May we be excused,” Cassandra said as Mira finished her breakfast.

“Yes you may,” their father said. --------

Both girls walking down the village street wearing their brown, worn out cloaks and relaxing, but not realizing they were being watched. They were being watch by The Monkees.

David said, “There they are. Let’s make our move and make it look like an accident, okay mates.”

David walking toward the girls pretending not to be paying attention to what was in front of him, the next thing both groups know is that everyone is on the ground. David helps Cassandra up, Michael helps Mira up, and Micky and Peter help the old governesses of the ground. Then Davy said as planned, “Sorry miss, I didn’t see you.”

David grabbed her hand with the one that had the parchment in it and kissed her hand. She knew what he was doing but didn’t want to draw any attention to her or the others. Holding tightly onto the note she said, “You didn’t mean any harm, sir. You are forgiven.”

After Michael helped Mira up, he handed her the note he had written her. After going their separate ways, the girls sat down to eat the lunch of cheese and bread they had brought with them. Both girls had seized the moment to read the notes the boys had given them.

David’s Letter to Cassandra

My dearest lady,

I would love to see you tonight. I want to meet at the oak tree next to the palace at midnight. Could you get a couple horses for us any way you can? I know you’ll come up with something. If you do not show up tonight, I will know you do not want to see me and I’ll understand.

Love, David

“I will meet him, but how will I convince the stablemen of getting two horses out so late at night?” she asked herself.

Then it came to her but she had to wait until she got home to do it. At the same time, Mira was reading the letter from Michael.

Lady Mira

Would you please meet me at the woods near the palace at around one in the morning? I want to see you again and I don’t know when your father will hire us to perform at the palace again. If you can please get a couple horses for us to ride. If you don’t show up, I will understand.

Michael

“I’m going to meet him. Whatever it takes. I need to see him again,” she said and like her sister she began to figure out away to get the horses they needed. ----------------------

As Cassandra and Mira entered the palace, they took off their cloaks and handed them to the servants who would take them to be laundered. They both walked to the library to meet their father, but he was running towards them and said, “Sorry girls I can’t talk to you right now, because we are having guests over and I must meet them. They should be here any minute.”

“Talk to you later, Father,” Cassandra said and thought this would be the perfect time to go to the stables.

“Since you do not need us at the present moment, we will go back to our sleeping quarters Ladies,” Mina said.

“Of course, Mina. Now Mira, I have something to do at this moment and I can’t stay with you. Do you mind?” Cassandra asked.

“No go ahead. I have something I need to do as well,” Mira said.

Cassandra quickly ran through the palace to go outside to the stables. By the time she was there she was so out of breath she didn’t know if she could tell them what she needed.

“Lady, are you all right? Here sit down,” one of the stablemen said.

After catching her breath she said, “Yes, I’m fine. My father needs two horses by the oak tree next to the palace over there before midnight.”

“Why does he need two horses out that late and why doesn’t he come and tell us himself?” the stablemen asked.

“First of all my father is busy. Someone is coming to the palace and he has to see to their needs. He needs the horses so him and my stepmother can spend sometime together without everyone knowing. Is that all right with you?” she asked with some defiance.

“All right my lady, don’t get upset. We will do it,” he said.

After her request was met, she walked back to the palace and to her room in peace. When she got to her room she realized her sister was not there, which is where she usually went after they came back from the village. Cassandra thought she was either at the library or with one of her current suitors. Since there was not much to do she decided to take a nap. She was wondering who the visitors were. She was hoping it was her mother’s sister, her aunt Morlana the queen of Anowda. Soon she drifted off to sleep. Shortly after Mira was walking to the stables, when she got there she ordered, “Stablemen, The guests that are arriving would like to go out this evening at about one in the morning please make sure there are a couple horses at the beginning of the woods before then.”

“Yes, my lady,” one of the stablemen said. They were afraid to ask why for fear of being reprimanded again, but wondered why both were asking horses for all the people in the palace except for them. --------------

After a two hour nap Cassandra was abruptly woken up by a servant saying, “Lady Cassandra, its dinner time and your father is requesting your presence, because the good queen of Anowda is here!”

She quickly jumped out of bed and quickly put herself together. With the servant on hot on her trail, she walked to the dining room. There she seen her aunt who looked much like her mom walk up to her and said, “Hello Cassandra. My you look just like your mother at her age except for the hair and the eyes which are you fathers. Give me a hug. I heard you were getting married so I had to see you before you did.”

“I’m glad you did. It’s so nice to see you. It brings so many good memories,” Cassandra said.

Her aunt looked into her eyes for a moment and said, “Are you up to something. I know that look. You’re just like her. Well both you and Mira are,” Morlana said.

“I’m not up to anything,” Cassandra said, but her blushing gave it away.

“I won’t say a thing to your father. I think it’s a good thing for you or your sister to be adventurous once in awhile especially since that’s the type of women you descend from on your mother’s side,” Morlana said.

Once they started eating dinner Morlana spoke, “Dorian there is a reason I came here, but for more than just a visit. I was wondering if Cassandra and Mira could come to Anowda if they want. I figured Cassandra could take a break from planning her wedding.”

“Well as you said it is up to them. Girls what do you think,” King Dorian said.

Cassandra answered first, “As much as I’d like to Aunt, I couldn’t put off the wedding. Prince Gregory and his father are impatient enough as it is planning the wedding for the traditional year.”

But for Cassandra it would disrupt her plans of seeing David and make him tell the truth so she could marry him.

“I understand, Cassandra. You can take the offer any time just know that. What about you Mira, would you like to visit me in Anowda? You could leave with me when I leave,” Morlana said.

“As Cassandra said, I would love to go, but I can’t for other reasons though,” Mira said thinking of Michael.

“Oh all right,” Morlana said knowing what her nieces were up to something and that it might involve both and boys.

“The matter has been discussed sister. I hope you are not disappointed,” King Dorian said.

“No. Your daughters have minds of their own and I respect that,” Morlana stated.

Soon everyone was finished with dinner and everyone went to bed. --------------------------

About a half an hour before midnight, Cassandra woke up put on the dress she had on the day before and a cloak. She slowly walked through the corridors in order to avoid waking anyone up. She had a couple close calls of being caught because some of the servants were wondering the corridors probably getting something for her brother. Eventually she made it the tree with a few minutes to spare. She saw the horses tied to the oak tree as she had asked and now she had to wait for David. Shortly after she heard footsteps that she knew were David’s who said, “I knew you would come and got the horses, but how?”

“You said you knew I would come up with a way. I told the stablemen that my father and my stepmother were going out on midnight excursion. Well it’s half the truth isn’t it?” she said.

He laughed at what she said. He quickly hugged her and kissed her, “I’m glad you did. Hey do you remember one of the times we left in the day?”

“Oh, how can I forget? I had one of the servants following after me,” she said.

(Flashback)

“Cassandra, pay attention this is very important!” the religion teacher said for what seemed like the one hundredth time.

Cassandra was bored and she was hoping for something to bring her out of her doldrums. Cassandra soon saw a servant running as to answer her prayers maybe her father wanted to speak with her or something. Then the servant spoke, “Lady Cassandra we have a visitor! Would you like me to tell your father?”

“Yes, If you would like,” she said getting up.

She finally realized who it was and quickly ran to the doors not paying attention to anything around her which she almost knocked down a couple servants carrying fresh laundered clothes. She didn’t care and she just laughed it off. When she reached the door, she stopped only long enough to see her handsome brown hair prince riding a horse and here her religions teacher chasing after her saying, “Cassandra, Cassandra!”

She ran towards the horse held out her hand and was pulled onto the horse by David. Finally the teacher came outside and asked scolding tone, “Cassandra, what’s your father going to think? What am I going to tell him?”

“Tell him I’m with Prince David. He trusts him,” Cassandra said stating the obvious and rode off with David.

(End of Flashback)

“You know Mira was angry that we didn’t ask her to come along?” Cassandra said.

“Really, well we better be going, luv. So I can show you a few things,” David said as they both got onto the horses.

He didn’t show her to many things except the place he was staying at with the other bards. She thought it was a quaint little place from the outside, but they mainly rode the horses around the village for about an hour and a half. Then they rode back towards the woods to wind themselves down and the horses. After tying the horse’s reigns to the tree, Davy gently pinned her up against the tree and passionately kissed which made her feel something she hadn’t felt in three years.

“Wow I’ve really missed that! Kiss me again and never stop!” she told David.

“I could do this all night and forever,” he said before kissing her one more time. “But you have to go back. I’ll help you put the horses back.”

“David would you consider telling people about who you are?” she asked.

“Yes, I will my love, but let me do this for a little while,” he said.

“Okay,” she said disappointedly.

“Remember I love you,” he said before gently kissing her again. --------------------------------

Mira woke up about an hour before she had to meet Michael. She quickly put on an old dress and cloak. She tried to not make a lot of noise as to not wake her sister, but what she didn‘t know was that Cassandra was not in bed. She began to creep slowly as she walked down the corridors to not to get caught. When she seen the door that led to the outside, she made a quick run for it hoping none of the servants were coming and everything around her was just a blur as she ran. Once she was outside, she noticed from the pale moonlight that the horses were at the edge of the forest. She took her time walking to the horse and got a glimpse of the tall, long hair man waiting for her.

Looking at the beautiful countryside and feeling cold from the night air, Mira finally walked to Michael.

After she approached him, he said, “Took you long enough?”

“Well it is a beautiful country after all. Why shouldn’t I look at it? One day soon I will not be able to see it everyday,” she stated.

“They left the horses out for us. Are you ready?” he asked.

“I’m if you are,” she answered.

They quickly got onto the broad, brown horses and rode the trail in the woods until they reached the clearing in the woods. The got of the horses and tied the reigns to some tree limbs. They slowly walked in the dark to another tree. Mira and Michael talked about everything; well Mira did most of the talking. All Michael did was listen to her talk, because he did not want to reveal to much about himself. Both fantasized about what they wanted to do to the other. Michael was intoxicated by the vanilla perfume coming from her which to him was not making the situation anymore comfortable for him. Soon Mira couldn’t keep her feelings hidden any longer and said, “Don’t you want to kiss me Michael?”

Michael shocked at what came out of her mouth said, “What? Well yeah, but-”

“No, ‘buts’ Michael. You either do or you don’t,” Mira stated.

“Well yeah I do, but have you kissed anyone before?” Michael said not realizing how jealous he was.

“Yeah, but the guys lets just say weren’t worth kissing. Besides I’m not like my sister, who’s only with another guy because our father made her. I’m considering my choices even though sometimes my choices don’t consider me. Don’t take it as fooling around, because it never gets that far.”

“Ok. I-” he started to say before Mira started kissing him and holding each other close.

Michael with Mira’s guidance slowly begin feel her up. Once she realized that he didn’t need her help anymore she wrapped her arms tightly around Michael’s neck. Soon Michael made them stop and her face still red from the excitement said, “Michael why did you stop?”

“Well I figured you would need to get back before someone noticed you’re gone,” he said. “Even though I don’t want this to end, I don’t want anyone to think you have been kidnapped.”

“You sound just like my father.”

“Yeah the guys I life with jokingly call me Papa Nez because I act like a father figure. Of course living with the three people that I do, who could blame me.”

She couldn’t help but laugh, because she couldn’t help but imagine how David acted around them. Of course it had been along time since David even stayed at the palace Negrida, so she could only speculate. They quickly got onto their horses and rode to the stables to put the horses away. Michael and Mira kissed each other passionately before having to say goodbye. Both cautiously walked away from the stables as to not get caught.

---------

Cassandra slowly walked into the dark corridors without making to much noise to hear if the guards were nearby. After walking a little ways, she stopped, stood against the wall and hid in the shadows, because she thought she heard footsteps. Not too long after she stopped walking she heard once again the sound that she thought was footsteps and soon she saw a silhouette of girl she knew to be her sisters. Within a matter of minutes, the guards were running in one the other corridors within their sight. Suddenly Cassandra wrapped her arms around her sister and put one on her lips to muffle a possible scream. Then she whispered in Mira’s ear, “Shush, don’t scream. It’s your sister. I know you just seen the guards. I’ll let go of you and you’ll just stand here quietly until all the guards go by. You understand.”

Mira nodded her head in response. The walked back towards their room once the corridors were full of guards. Neither of them knew why the guards were out this late and as far as they knew the had came into the castle quietly. After they had walked into their room their aunt walked out of the shadows and back towards her room. She wondered what had them out so late and then she thought, “It must have been a couple boys or some mischief like that. Why am I surprised? But I‘m happy for them.”

Once the girls walked to the bedroom, Cassandra said, “What are you doing out late?”

Mira retorted, “You know I could ask the same of you.”

“I went out to meet David if that’s any of your business.”

“I went out to meet Michael.”

“So what did you and Michael do?” “We talked a little,” Mira said while her face turned red.

“Really. If you would like to know David and I went riding and he showed me where he and the other boys were staying. Then we ‘talked’ and I came back here.”

---------------------

After walking from the palace stables for an hour, he finally stumble into his place with the other three guys. He slowly walked to the bucket where they kept fresh water and took a sip from the ladle. He could still smell the now lingering smell of lavender that Cassandra preferred to wear. He was not going to get her off is mind for a while now nor could he do that anyways, but now that she was back in his life it was worse than ever. He hoped that she snuck back into the palace safely and unnoticed.

Shortly after Michael walked into the pad and walked to the water bucket to get a drink just as Davy had. Then Davy spoke, “What are you doing out this late?”

Davy smelled the all too familiar scent of vanilla: Mira’s favorite and he knew the answer to which he said, “You were with Lady Mira weren’t you?”

He was caught of guard when Davy answered for him and asked, “How did you know?”

“The scent of Vanilla. Mira always smells of vanilla,” Davy answered.

“How do you know that? Did ever have a relationship with her?” Michael asked getting jealous.

“No, I very much wanted to be with Cassandra. Mira had a crush when we were much younger, but she saw someone else that caught her fancy after me. The reason I know is that she is Cassandra’s sister and I have stayed in the palace before therefore I know their habits and anything like that. Plus Cassandra prefers to wear lavender over vanilla. So you don’t have to worry. Though I... never mind,” Davy said.

“Though what?” Michael asked.

“You might just be a passing fancy for her, too. She has a thing for musicians she always has. I’m not saying that Mira gets around it’s just that no one holds her fancy for very long that’s all I’m saying.”

“Maybe this time its different David. You never know.”

“It’s true. You could be the one to keep her fancy, but mind you if you hurt her I’ll hurt you. The only reason is because she’s like a little sister.”

“Understood, David.”

--------------------------------------

The next morning at the breakfast the girls silently ate their meal while listening to their aunt and father talk. Soon the conversation went to what happen earlier that morning with the guards and their father began talking to them about it, “Girls someone broke in last night into the palace and we sent some of them to check on you, but neither of you weren’t in your room? Were you okay?”

Neither knowing what to say fearing that the truth would come out, just sat their quietly figuring out the perfect lie to tell him, but none came out. There aunt spoke out for them, “Dorian they were in my quarters catching up. So they were okay and when I heard the commotion out my room, I told them to stay for a little while longer before they went to their room.”

They didn’t know what to say, but nodded their heads in agreement and were extremely grateful that their aunt covered for them. For they knew when something like this happened while their aunt was staying with them, they never check to see if she was okay because they knew she could defend herself. Shortly after breakfast the girls were taking a leisurely walk on the castle grounds. Soon they saw tall, red haired figure hastily walking in their direction, which they knew to be their aunt Morlana. When Morlana was face to face with them she said, “Girls tell me now why I lied to your father this morning at breakfast and tell me why I saw sneaking into the palace at the same time the guarding were searching the palace. I’m not anger at you nor will I be. I just want to know the truth.”

They looked at each other wondering if they should tell her what happened and that in fact David was alive, but the problem I would Morlana believe them. Even though they had always told her the truth, they wouldn’t believe it themselves if she told them.

“Well it starts with my birthday party the other day. Father had hired this group of bards and once I got an actual look at one of them. At the moment I seen him, my heart jumped, because it was David. I’m not lying, because I even spoke to him. When Mira and I went out yesterday morning, David and his group of friends ‘accidentally’ walked into us and while he was helping me up he handed me a note to see him at midnight. I was able to talk the stablemen into setting out a couple horses at about that time. That’s it and I believe you know the rest,” Cassandra said.

“Prince David alive! Can you be sure? Of course you’re sure, why else could you be this happy. I’m sure you would know if it’s him or not. You were right when you said he wasn’t dead. From what I’ve heard from your father you’ve been practically moping around the castle. Did Mira go with you? How did he stay in hiding all this time without anybody knowing about it? Does he plan on reveling himself to the public?” their aunt asked excitedly.

“No, I did not, Aunt. I met one of David’s bard friends. Similar story to Cassandra’s,” Mira said.

“Mira, I’m not telling you what to do, but be careful if you care for this guy because him being with a royal might just be his death wish. What’s his name though?” Morlana asked.

“Well to answer your questions about David, he grew out his hair and stayed in the company of his fellow bards. Yes, he plans on telling people he’s alive but not right now. If you want to know why he ran off and pretended to be dead, his father and him got into an argument,” Cassandra said sadly.

“It’s all right Cassandra. At least he’s alive and well. You’re happy again, which is always a good thing. Now Mira, tell all about your new friend?” Morlana asked.

“His name is Michael. His last name starts with an N. He is the leader of the group. He’s so sweet and handsome. He has thick, black hair and he’s tall with brooding brown eyes,” Mira said.

Morlana listened intently to what her niece had to say about the new man in her life, but everything she heard wasn’t adding up about him to which she said, “How old is he and where is he originally from?”

“Well he never told me that so I assume he grew up in the village that what I understand from what he did tell me. And I believe he is about three years older than David,” Mira answered.

Morlana took this all in, she believed Michael wasn’t who she thought he was, but she couldn’t shake the feeling there was something more about Michael they just didn’t know about. Eventually Morlana spoke, “I knew it was about boys, but I didn’t know it was going to be this complicated, but I won’t say a word to your father.”

“Thank you, Aunt Morlana,” both girls said.

--------------------

Cassandra meeting David and Mira meeting Michael went on for two months. They kept their meeting secret from their father. One meeting shortly before Cassandra was about to marry Prince Gregory, they were still in each others arms and she knew she had to leave soon, but she wanted to try one more time to get him to change his mind about revealing that he was still alive, “Davy, please say something for me. So we can be together!” She said to the point she was almost in tears.

“Not, now love, but soon,” he said.

“All right, but it better be soon, because if you don’t I’m going to say something or I’ll be married to someone else,” she said hoping it would be the last time she had to say and by the look that David gave her she knew that it would be soon, because he did not want her married to Gregory.

“I know. It will be soon,” he said.

Before getting on her horse, she kissed David passionately and tenderly. When they stopped, she said, “Goodbye my love. Hope to see you soon.”

They shared one more goodbye kiss. They got so into it that Davy began to part Cassandra’s lips with his tongue and began to entwine their tongues together. Soon Cassandra made them stopped and said, “I have to go. I’ve stayed here too long already and if I don’t leave know I won’t leave.”

“Goodbye, luv. Have a safe trip home,”

“Goodbye,” she said before kicking her horse quickly to leave.

What they didn’t know is that several miles away someone was watching them. Even though he couldn’t hear a word they were saying, he knew what was going one. What Prince Gregory had seen didn’t not please him. He stood in his secluded spot for a moment and thought, “When the time is right, I’m going to teach Cassandra her rightful place and not betray me!”

The moment Cassandra entered her room she just laid down on the bed without changing and cried herself to sleep. She dreamed of the night she reunited with David and the night she met his friends that he lived with. Once again reliving the jokes and mayhem in the house that was mainly caused by Micky, David constantly waiting on her and showering her with kisses, Peter being shy, and Mike barely saying a word.

-----------------------------

A week later a party was being held in honor of Gregory and Cassandra’s marriage and once again King Dorian had hired The Monkees to play. Cassandra stood as far away from the bards as to not give away anything that has been happing, but always stealing glances to David when she could. Before performing the song “We Were Made For Each Other,” Davy told everyone that it was for the soon to be married couple, but she knew he was talking about her and him. While David sang the song, all Cassandra could do was cry, but she cried quietly and without any notice to her, but even if they did nobody would really question her.

Soon Gregory came over and wanted to dance with her. She had been doing her best all evening to avoid him, but now he had finally caught with her and he said, “Will you dance with me, Cassandra?”

“No,” she said.

“That’s it I’m tired of you ignoring me. Every time I’ve come near you in the past two months you’ve walked away and now I ask you to dance with me and you don’t want to. I’m going to be your husband soon and sooner or later you are going to have to tolerate my presence!” he exclaimed and no sooner had he finished speaking he smack her in the face.

When he smack her in the face it was so strong and caught her off guard that she fall backwards. David stopped and threw down his tambourine, without noticing that it broke, to run to Cassandra. Micky, Michael, Peter were thinking, “Don’t do that you’re going to get yourself killed!” It didn’t take long for David to get to Cassandra. He touched her face, which had already started to bruise and pounding with stinging pain, and kissed then asked, “All you all right, luv?”

He kissed her again before she answered, “Yes, I’m fine.”

David helped her up off the ground. Prince Gregory drew his arm back to strike one more time, but David caught his arm and gave him a look that meant “Don’t you dare hit her again and if you do you are mine!” Instead Prince Gregory said with a sly smile, “I’ve been watching you for a while Cassandra on you midnight excursions for a while and you’ve been seeing this bard behind my back!”

By this time Cassandra’s father came to see what was going on and said, “What is going on? Explain this at once!”

Everyone ignored King Dorian. David finally mustered up some courage and decide to tell everyone who he truly was. After staring at Prince Gregory for a second, David said, “I’m no ordinary bard! I am Prince David of Lanea!”

Everyone at the party just stood there staring at David, Cassandra, and Gregory and not saying a word. Soon King Dorian spoke, “Is it really you, David? You’re not dead. Cassandra is going to be married soon and I don‘t know if you can marry her even though you originally were.”

“Cassandra is going to marry me!” said Gregory with an evil chuckle.

Creeping up out of no where Gregory’s father, King Robert said, “No she’s not. Gregory you are not going to marry Lady Cassandra. You got one of your little girlfriends pregnant, I found out about it, and now you will marry the girl you got pregnant. I know this is kind of sudden Dorian, but I figured since we are all here on behalf of Cassandra and my son it would best to end the impending marriage now.”

“But father!” Gregory said.

“No but father. Did you not expect me to find out and you marry Cassandra and get off scott-free. I don‘t think so,” King Robert said.

“I agree. Especially since Prince David is back in the picture and I know Cassandra never wanted to marry. Do you still want to marry my daughter, David?” King Dorian asked.

“Yes, I do,” David answered.

“Well as soon as you tell your father your alive we will make the preparations for the wedding,” King Dorian said.

“I will, sir,” David said and gave a loving look to Cassandra. “Sir, can my companions and me stay in the palace this evening?”

“Of course my boy!”

Cassandra was holding onto David’s hand for dear life during the entire conversation, but loosened up her grip after everything ended well.
